SHONA DEY

SALT SPRAY / MAHIA MOSS / MAHIA MUDSTONE / MAHIA NIGHT SKY

My work sits at the juxtaposition between the subject, the imagination and the scientific. These images explore co-creation with natural processes and the interconnectedness between humans and the natural world.

SHONA DEY

Shona is an Auckland-based photographer with commercial and fine-art practices that co-exist, feeding off each other. Her photography is driven by a sense of curiosity. She photographs as an impartial observer, enabling intensive study of detail. This results in emotive images that are authentic, yet idiosyncratic.

In her fine-art practice, Shona’s photography starkly deviates from traditional image capture in an attempt to reveal hidden aspects of reality. Informed by chaos theory, her ongoing body of work Experiments in the Transient produces unique non-reproducible artefacts using digital photographs that have been manipulated within a studio laboratory.
